A gunman opened fire on tourists from the summit of the Pyramid of the Moon at the Teotihuacan archaeological site in Mexico on April 20, 2026, killing a 32-year-old Canadian woman and injuring at least 13 other visitors before taking his own life, according to the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico.
The attack occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. local time on a Sunday morning, sending hundreds of visitors fleeing across the ancient plaza. Witnesses told CNN affiliate Televisa that more than 20 shots were fired. Emergency services treated seven people for gunshot wounds at the scene; six others were injured in falls while trying to escape. Among those injured were six Americans, three Colombians, two Brazilians, one Russian national, and one additional Canadian.
