Russia lost a net five square miles of Ukrainian territory in the week of 14 to 21 April 2026, according to the Institute for the Study of War's weekly assessment — yet on 24 April it demonstrated that losing ground has not diminished its capacity for terror: drones struck residential buildings in Dnipro overnight, injuring seven civilians, including two children, and setting apartment blocks ablaze across three districts.
Emergency services in Dnipro confirmed the toll and the damage in a statement on the morning of 24 April. One drone struck a multi-storey apartment building directly, starting a fire that gutted two floors before firefighters brought it under control. Two women aged 62 and 68 were hospitalised in moderate condition; a 35-year-old man received outpatient treatment. The remaining four casualties, including the two children, sustained light injuries.
